Officers from the City of London police dog unit have paid tribute to one of their general purpose police dogs who passed away suddenly.
PD ‘Lester’ was preparing to join the Met’s task force, having worked with the City of London Police.
In a tweet, a spokesperson for the unit said:
‘It’s with the heaviest of hearts & shock we have to announce the sudden passing of our PD Lester who was about to take on new challenges [with] @MetTaskforce.
‘He will sorely be missed by all City & Met colleagues. All those who met him knew what a true gent he was.’
One follower tweeted: ‘So very sorry heartbreaking. Thank you for your loyal service PD Lester. Thoughts to your family who must be heartbroken.’
Another added: ‘Aw Lester. Hope you’re running free over the rainbow bridge. Heartfelt thoughts to his handler and family’.
