A Thames Valley Police officer, attached to the forces Roads Policing Unit, had what has been described as a ‘lucky escape’ in the early hours of this morning after a drunk driver almost hit the rear of their stationary vehicle.
The incident happened on the A41 Tring Road as the police officer was checking the details of another motorist.
A spokesperson for the unit said:
‘The driver smelt strongly of alcohol and was immediately arrested at the roadside.
‘The driver provided an evidential reading of 163ug in custody (over FOUR times the legal limit) and now faces a lengthy disqualification from driving.
‘It also transpired that the car had no insurance and was seized under Section 165RTA.
‘The dangers of drinking and driving should never be underestimated.
