Lifeboat Volunteer Hands In His Wellies After 51 Years Of Lifesaving Service

After a staggering 51 years of volunteering at Shoreham Lifeboat, Peter Huxtable MBE has handed in his pager and distinctive yellow wellies.

During the 51 years that Mr Huxtable spent on the lifeboat, he was involved in thousands of rescue operations where 449 lives were saved.

But having spent thousands of weekends by his pager – poised ready to launch in life-threatening sea states – Mr Huxtable will now get to enjoy some well-deserved downtime.

Lifeboat volunteers also usually spend at least one evening each week training.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said:

‘While words cannot ever repay what Peter has given to the RNLI, we want to take this chance to say thank you to a lifeboat legend’.
