A fearless Merseyside Police Dog has had a narrow escape after nearly being hit by a fleeing vehicle last night (12th December).

Police dog Quga and handler responded to a ‘suspects on’ premises call at an off-licence where five males had been spotted breaking into the business.

When PD ‘Quga’ and handler arrived on the scene, one of the males made off, followed by Quga.

The fleeing male made it into a waiting car, which then fled from the scene, narrowly avoiding hitting PD Quga in the process.

Undeterred by the near-miss, Quga ran back to the off-licence with his handler and detained two of the thieves.

The two suspects were taken back to a local police station without further incident.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the males who fled from the scene.

Responding to Mersey Police Dog’s Tweet about the incident, one Twitter user said: ‘Good lad Quga! Stay safe, lovely boy. Well done team.’

Another added: ‘Wow! Glad you’re ok Quga! Great job team.’

Meanwhile, one user summed up the feelings of many when they said: ‘Brave dog.’
